Karen Mahoney is a Clinical Nurse Specialist with the Renal Program at Fraser Health, and is currently in a position funded by the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research, acting as the Nursing Research Facilitator for FH. Karen has a longstanding interest in chronic illness, chronic disease management and patient education. Karen has conducted and participated in a number of research projects including urgent dialysis care, nursing ethics, self management and patient-clinician communication.
Karen has been involved in projects including the development of chronic care clinics and integrated specialty-care clinics, and streamlining end-of-life care for renal patients. Prior to her CNS role, Karen taught Nephrology Nursing at BCIT for 9 years, and continues to work as a front-line nurse with dialysis patients on a casual basis.
