Every year the BCATPR is pleased to present a FREE one-day workshop on telehealth and telemedicine for a growing audience of health workers and researchers. This year we had more than 100 people register to attend, making it our most attended workshop to date!
This years’ workshop was held at SFU Harbour Centre on Monday, June 8 and featured Ms. Patricia Lingley-Pottie, Clinical Manager of the IWK Health Centre in Halifax NS as keynote speaker. Ms. Pottie’s topic was ”Bringing Mental Health Care to Those Who Need It: Exploring Opportunities for Mental Telehealth in Rural Communities”
“The Family Help Program provides evidence-based, treatment approaches to families and children from a distance. Families learn skills to overcome challenging problems including behaviour difficulties, anxiety, recurrent headache/abdominal pain and nighttime enuresis. By addressing common treatment barriers (e.g. no travel, no need to take time from work/school, no financial burden, no stigma), this innovative telehealth approach provides increased access to services for families who need help, especially those who are geographically disadvantaged.”
Other featured speakers included Dr. Josee Lavoie (speaking on Aboriginal telehealth research) and Dr. Richard E. Scott (speaking on trends and developments in provincial e-health policy).
